The Crest High FFA program in cooperation with Poplar Spring Baptist Church and the Cleveland County Potato project harvested over 1,200 lbs of sweet potatoes Wednesday 21 October that will go to needy folks in Cleveland county and the surrounding area.  Doug Sharp and Bill Horn, leaders of the county project, met with county agriculture teachers last winter and the project planning started for the Crest FFA plot that was provided by Poplar Spring Baptist Church.  In late June a group of students met on a Friday with other volunteers of the county group and planted the 1/2 acre plot. During the summer months the plot was tended by Crest FFA members as a chapter service project.  All current agriculture classes were involved in the harvest on Wednesdayduring the school day by helping dig potatoes, haul them out of the field and box them for transport.  The Crest group hopes to plant another crop during the next season and involve others in the community.
